Matthew Evans was born on the 7th August 1941. He is a member of the British Labour Party.

Political Career[edit]

He was made a life peer on the 11th May 2000, receiving the title Baron Evans of Temple Guiting in the County of Gloucestershire. During his time in the House of Lords, he served as a government whip from 2002 to 2007. He has also served as a spokesman for a number of departments including: the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Treasury. Evans focuses on policies concerning ‘Economy and finance’, ‘Culture, media and sport’, ‘Economy and finance’, ‘Parliament, government and politics’.

Notable Work[edit]

He left government in 2007 to become the Chairman of EFG Private Bank. He is also Vice President of both the Hay Literary Festival and the Philip Larkin Society.
