Jose Maria Benegas Haddad (Caracas, July 25, 1948) is a Basque politician and lawyer. Member of the Socialist Party of Euskadi integrated into the Spanish Socialist Party.

Political Career

He was a member of the Executive Committee as secretary of the PSOE Federal Organization and Member as being key to their participation in Suresnes Congress for the election of Felipe González as leader of the organization. It was his major contribution to the debate on the draft of the 1978 Constitution and the Statute of Guernica in 1979 comprised of members who negotiated and signed the Ajuria Enea Pact on 12 January 1988. He served as Minister of Interior in the Basque General Council chaired by Ramon Rubial in 1978 and 1980 elections to the Basque Parliament was elected MP for Guipúscua. In 2000 he attributes have made a proposal to the then Secretary General of the Socialist José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero to begin a process of an end to violence in the Basque Country and that is the one with the ETA truce of 2006, Prime Minister followed by another report by PP deputy Jaime Ignacio del Burgo.
