Joan Walley (born 23 January 1949) is a British Labour Party politician, who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stoke-on-Trent North since 1987.
Political Career[edit]
oan was elected Labour MP for Stoke-on-Trent North at the 1987 general election. She soon became shadow spokesperson for Environmental Protection and Development and then for Transport, a post that she held for the five years between 1990 and 1995. Prior to the election to parliament, she was a member of Lambeth Council.
Education[edit]
Joan Walley went to Biddulph Grammar School and took a degree in social administration at Hull University, followed by a diploma at Swansea. She worked with recovering alcoholics, and in the planning department of councils in Swansea and London.
