The concept of NGOs was developed by the United Nations and refers to organizations created independently of governments working on a not-for-profit basis. An NGO’s decision making bodies must be independent of that of the government authorities. NGOs usually have social or political objectives such as the promotion of human rights, alleviation of poverty, etc.
