Land cover is a broad term used to describe all physical matter that covers the Earth’s surface, including natural as well as man-made substances. Grass, forest, asphalt, water and sand are all examples of land cover. The mapping of land cover can be important in collecting data and information on the ecological state of the Earth and therefore can be instrumental in affecting environmental policies and decisions.
