Stanley Clinton-Davis Baron Clinton-Davis, Privy Councillor (born December 6th,1928) is a British politician belonging to the Labour Party.

Political Career[edit]

Stanley Clinton Davis was elected as the Member of Parliament for Hackney Central at the 1970 general election and held the seat until it was abolished in boundary changes for the 1983 general election. He was a junior minister for Trade during the 1974–1979 Labour government. Stanley Clinton Davis was appointed as a European Commissioner in the Delors Commission 1985–88, responsible for the environment, consumer protection and transport. He became a life peer as Baron Clinton-Davis, of Hackney in the London Borough of Hackney in 1990 and was chair of the Refugee Council 1989–97. Following the Labour victory in the 1997 general election, he once again became a minister at the Department of Trade and Industry.

Education[edit]

He studied at Hackney Downs School and the Mercer's School before going on to read Law at King's College London.
