Ian Anthony Hamilton-Smith, 3rd Baron Colwyn, CBE (born January 1st 1942), commonly known as Anthony Hamilton-Smith. is a British peer, doctor and politician. He is one of ninety hereditary peers, elected to remain in the House of Lords after the House of Lords Act 1999.

Political Career[edit]

Lord Colwyn sits as a Conservative peer, and is one of the few remaining hereditary peers. He inherited his title in January 1967. He has sat on the Medical Ethics Select Committtee, taking advantage of his experience as a dentist, as as well as committees on administration, finance, and science and technology. Lord Colwyn is also joint chair of the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group.

He is a Fellow of the Industry and Parliament Trust and a Member of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Education[edit]

He studied at Cheltenham College, at St Bartholomew's Hospital and at the Royal Dental Hospital. He was further educated at the University of London, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and a Licentiate in Dental Surgery (LDS) in 1966, and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
