Lucia Puttrich, born 11 April 1961 in Gießen, is a Hessian politician (CDU) and since January 2014 Hessian Minister for Federal and European Affairs. She was Hessian Minister of the Environment from 2010 to 2014. From 1995 to 2009 she was Mayor of Nidda. From September 2009 to September 2010 she was a member of the German Bundestag.
Political Career[edit]
Puttrich joined the CDU in 1977. In 1985 she was elected to the city council of Nidda. On January 22, 1995, she was elected as successor of Helmut Jung (SPD) for Mayor of Nidda. She was re-elected twice.
Puttrich is a member of the national board of the local political union of the CDU and deputy state chairman in Hesse. In 2006, she was elected chair of the CDU Wetterau district and county council representative. Since 2002 she has been a member of the Presidium of the CDU Hesse and became deputy state chairman in 2010.
In the cabinet of Bouffier II, she was appointed on as State Minister for Federal and European Affairs.
On 21 November 2008 she was nominated as the parliamentary candidate of the CDU for the electoral district of Wetterau. On 27 September 2009 she was elected with 41.0% of the vote for the constituency of Wetterau in the 17th German Bundestag.
In the German Bundestag she serves as a member of the Committee on Economics and Technology and the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. She was also a substitute member of the Committee on Legal Affairs.
Education[edit]
Puttrich studied Law at the Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg and Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences, Giessen-Friedberg. After graduating in 1986 with a degree in Business Administration, she worked in her parents' workshop before joining the management team of a medium-sized paper manufacturing company in 1988.
