Jerzy Kozdroń – (born on 23rd October 1950 in Mrągowo, Poland) is a Polish politician, official of the local government, a lawyer, Member of Parliament (V, VI and VII term), and from 2013 Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice.
Political Career[edit]
In the 70s Kozdroń was a member of the Rural Youth Union, the Socialist Union of Polish Students, the United Polish People’s Party and the Society of Polish-Soviet Friendship. From 1979 to 1981 he was a member of the Polish United Workers' Party. In April 1981, he was a member of the National Association of Peer Court Polish Socialist Youth. From the 80s until 1990 he belonged to the “Solidarity" party. Since 1990, he has been associated with the local government, he was the chairman of the city council in Kwidzyń. In 1991 he joined the Liberal-Democratic Congress, and in 1994 the Freedom Union, which he left in 2001. Since 2001 he has been associated with the Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska).
Between 2002 and 2005 he was deputy to the regional council of Pomerania region. In 2005 he was elected to Parliament (V term) for the district of Gdańsk. In elections in 2007 he won a parliamentary seat for the second time. In the 2011 elections he successfully applied for re-election. In 2012 he was nominated by journalists as one of the ten most distinguished Members of Parliament published by the "Polityka” magazine.
Education[edit]
After high school he joined the seminary of the Catholic Church for a short time. He then graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Poznań. From 1974 to 1976 he was a court trainee at the Provincial Court in Gdańsk and from 1976 to 1978 assessor at the Provincial Court in Elbląg. From July 1978 to December 1981 was a judge of the District Court in Kwidzyń. In the years 1982-1989 he worked as a solicitor in municipal cooperatives. After obtaining becoming a solicitor in 1989, he opened a law firm in Kwidzyń which was conducted as a civil partnership, and in 1998 an independent legal counsel law firm.
