Jerzy Żyżyński – (born on 6th August 1949 in the Łomża, Poland) is a Polish economist, Professor of Economics and a Member of Parliament (VII term).

Political Career[edit]

In the years of 1981-1985 he worked at the Department of Social Studies at the Central Statistical Office. From 1985 to 1989 he worked as a consultant and analyst at the Center for Public Opinion Research. From 1988 to 1992 he worked with the Warsaw radio station “Radio Dla Ciebie” and was the author of various essays and commentaries in economics.

Between 1993 and 1996 he worked as an economic expert in the Budget and Finance Team of the Office of Research of the Chancellery of the Parliament. Between 1998 and 2004 he was a member of the Economic and Social Council at the Government Centre for Strategic Studies. He was an expert in parliamentary committees of inquiry: Privatization of PZU (2005) and Privatization of the banking sector (2006-2007). In 2006-2007 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of KGHM Polish Copper.

In the elections in 2011 he obtained a parliamentary seat in the district of Opole from a list of the Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość).

Education[edit]

In 1972 he graduated from the Faculty of Economic Sciences. In 1983 he completed his degree of doctor habilitated (PhD) in 1997 from the Faculty of Management at Warsaw University. In 2011 he obtained the title of professor. His research work deals with the economics of the public sector, fiscal and monetary policies and their mutual relations.
