Hans Christian Schmidt (born 25 August 1953) is a Danish politician and former Minister of Transport. He was the Danish Minister of Food from 2004 to 2007. Before that, he was the Minister for the Environment from 2001. He is a member of Venstre (the Danish Liberal Party), and has been a member of the Folketinget (parliament) since the Danish parliamentary elections of 1994.
Political Career[edit]
He worked as Minister for Transport between February 23rd 2010 and October 3rd 2011, Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries between August 2nd 2004 and September 12th 2007, Minister for the Environment between November 27th 2001 and August 2nd 2004. He has also been Chairperson of the Rural Districts and Islands Committee, a Member of the Transport Committee, the Health Committee, the Business, Growth and Export Committee and the Ecclesiastical Affairs Committee. He held the a position on the Board of the Danish Inter-Parliamentary Group, Environment policy representative 1995-2001 and was Group chairperson of the Liberal Party between 2007 and 2010.
Education[edit]
He obtained his Teachers' certificate examination from Haderslev Teacher Training College in 1977 and then completed his Higher preparatory examination from Kolding Upper Secondary School 1973. Prior to this he completed his Commercial examination from Haderslev Business College 1971.
Notable Work[edit]
He was a Member of Vojens Municipal Council between 1982 and 2001, chairman of the education and social services committee in the periods of 1990-1994 and 1998-2001 and he was then first Deputy Mayor 1998-2001. He was a Member of the Nature Protection Board of Appeal 1995-2001 and Chairman of Vojens 'Kultur-og Musikhus' 2000-2001.
