Joanna Lumley, born on the 1st may 1946 is an English actress, model and former author. She is primarily known for her role in the British television series Absolutely Fabulous and has appeared in several films such as On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Trail of the Pink Panther and James and the Giant Peach. More recently she has appeared in Corpse Bride and The Wolf of Wall Street. She has spoken out for a number of human rights causes and cultural Justice campaigns and is an advocate of a number of charities such as Compassion in World Farming and Vegetarians’ International Voice for Animals. Lumley is a patron of the Farm Animal Sanctuary.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy
Her work with international charities supporting minorities and indigenous people engages her work within the field of cultural diplomacy. Her work on TV documentaries promotes and teaches about cultural differences.
Humanitarian Causes
Lumley is best known for her support for the Gurkhas, the exiled Tibetan people and Government, the Kondha indigenous people of India and the Prospect Burma charity. In 2008 Lumley became the public face of a campaign to provide all Nepalese origin Gurkha veterans who served in the British Army before 1997 the right to settle in Britain. Joanna Lumley is the public face, supporter and patron of several large charities including Survival International, Tree Aid, Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust, Trust in Children, Action on Addiction and The Friends of Kadzinuni.
Philanthropic Donations
Joanna Lumley has been the face of a number of charitable initiatives, most recently joining forces with Oxfam and Marks and spencer to launch “Shop Boutique” which re-uses and sells style pieces to fundraise for charity. She has fundraised for countless charities and organisations.
