About Gazprom
Gazprom is a global energy company and holds the world’s largest natural gas reserves. It is also the largest Russian company and the only exporter-producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas in the country. Gazprom was created in 1989 when the Ministry of Gas Industry of the Soviet Union transformed itself into a corporation, keeping all its assets intact. The company was later partly privatized, but currently the Russian government holds a controlling stake. The major part of Gazprom's production fields are located around the Gulf of Ob in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Western Siberia, while the Yamal Peninsula is expected to become the company's main gas producing region in the future. Gazprom possesses the largest gas transport system in the world, with 158,200 kilometres of gas trunk lines. Major new pipeline projects include Nord Stream and South Stream. The company possesses subsidiaries in many different industry sectors, including finance, media and aviation. In addition, it controls majority stakes in various companies. At present, the company actively implements large-scale projects aimed at exploiting gas resources of the Arctic Shelf, Yamal Peninsula, Eastern Siberia and the Far East, as well as hydrocarbons exploration and production projects abroad.
Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy
Gazprom annually supports various social projects contributing to culture, science and education development and the promulgation of a healthy lifestyle. Some of these initiatives include international internships and collaborations with various universities including: Lomonosov Moscow State University, [Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas], Plekhanov Saint Petersburg State Mining Institute. Gazprom is a member of the Foundation for German-Russian Youth Exchange and has invested in cultural exchanges between Germany and Russia and Germany and Kazakhstan. Gazprom also organized the Russian film week in Germany and has promoted Russian artists in Germany.

Cultural Exchange Programs
Gazprom Germania has been a member of the Foundation for German-Russian Youth Exchange since 2008. Gazprom tries to facilitate cultural exchange between the German and Russian youngsters.
Education
International Internship Program
Attracting and hiring talented professionals is one of the Gazprom Neft’s top HR priorities. The company begins its search for young, dynamic, and career-oriented prospective employees by visiting colleges and universities. In regions where the company operates, Gazprom Neft does its best to form talent pools for the oil and gas sector by offering competitions to school graduates to enroll in higher education institutions. The company’s partners in this initiative includes Russia’s leading higher education institutions. As part of this initiative, the company offers students pre-graduation internships with Gazprom Neft companies where students can combine theory and practice and take their first steps in the oil profession. The company also offers undergraduate internships at its various subsidiaries.
Grants And Scholarships
To support and encourage the most promising students, Gazprom annually grants 25 scholarships on a competitive basis. Every year more than 5 thousand students in higher education institutions are provided with externships by Gazprom subsidiaries. Between 2008 and 2012 higher education institutions were provided with a total of 197 computer simulators, training systems and video tutorials on modern technologies of gas production and transportation.

Promoting Human- and Civil Rights
‘’Following the requirements of the International Labor Organization Conventions ratified by the Russian Federation, OAO Gazprom puts into practice international labor principles and standards: freedom of association, effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining, elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labor, and avoidance of discrimination in employment opportunities. The company recognizes employee rights to decent working conditions, fair remuneration, protection from occupational risks, career growth opportunities, the right to rest and leisure, individual development, maternity protection, and other social guarantees.’’ (Gazprom Sustainability Report,2010-2011)
Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid
Gazprom is actively involved in various charity programs and helps children in needs. The Moscow branch of the Assistance Center for socio-cultural and charitable projects supported by Gazprom Export held New Year festivities in St. Petersburg for patients of children’s hospital socially vulnerable children and children from orphanages. Another New Year´s event was held at an orphanage in the Republican Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases located at Ust-Izhora (Leningrad region). Children had an opportunity to watch interesting performances and to receive Christmas gifts. Through these activities, Gazprom Export successfully launched a children’s charity program in St. Petersburg (Gazprom, 2014). Moreover Gazprom supports Children’s Ice Hockey Gazprom Neft Cup, the Eighth Youth Ice Hockey Tournament of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) will be held in April 2014. The company sponsors an international children charity project called ‘Open World’. Children from Germany and Russia participate in the numerous events. Also in October 2013, another Traditional international charity event called “Picture Books for Visually Impaired Children” was organised by Gazprom for visually impaired children.
Supporting Music and Visual Arts
Baltic Youth Philharmonic has been sponsored by Gazprom and took place in Berlin on January 22, 2014. It is another project, which has brought young people from Germany, Russia and other nations surrounding the Baltic Sea together. The German-Russian festival is also sponsored by Gazprom with partnership of other organizations. Since 2011 Gazprom Group supports the project called ‚‘‘Stradivari in the Capitals of the World‘‘. In 2013 EuRoPol Gaz and Gazprom sponsored an outstanding performance of the world’s most renowned Russian and Polish musicians, who performed the most beautiful compositions of the Romantic period at the Polish Theatre in Warsaw. As a part of a long-term initiative by the Gazprom group „The Synergy in Music project“ has been launched in Singapore to promote cultural understanding between Russia and ASEAN.
Supporting Films Industry
Since 2005 Gazprom has been a constant sponsor and partner of the Russian film week in Berlin.
Supporting Sports
Gazprom has been heavily involved in sponsoring and organizing sports events as well as investing in building various sport centres. For instance, the company built the new sport and recreation complex in Valdai in 2012. The new fitness and health center was open in Mari El Republic as part of the Gazprom for Children program. In early 2013 another sports center was open in Smolensk Region.
