About Heineken Holding N.V.
Heineken International was founded in 1864 in Amsterdam by Gerard Adriaan Heineken. After being really successful, the company started buying other breweries and by 2012 Heineken owned almost 200 in different 70 countries. Heineken is the third largest beer producer in the world based on volume, ranked after Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller. The company is organised into five territories - Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, The Americas, Africa and the Middle East, and Asia Pacific-, which control their regional operations. Among others, some of the most famous beers owned by Heineken are Cruzcampo, Tiger Beer, Żywiec, Starobrno, Zagorka, Birra Moretti, Ochota, Murphy’s, Star and Heineken Pilsener. The original Amsterdam brewery closed in 1988 and now only functions as a museum; called the Heineken Experience.
Employment Policy
Each local branch of the Heineken Company has its own plan and a local sustainability committee which is responsible for its execution. It is this market-based approach that is seen as fundamental to its success. Heinekens main values are Enjoyment, Respect and Passion. The company stays true to these values in how it works and conducts its business, in order to achieve sustainable growth. Cooperation is also a key factor. By working with partners and stakeholders the company can achieve more than on its own. Heineken sees its people as its main source of competitive advantage as the company grows in scale and complexity. Heineken has clear set priorities for achieving sustainable, long-term success; including ensuring that all the employees and partners speak a common language and build their capabilities in a systematic way. Thinking globally, working collaboratively and developing as a strong team is very important to the Heineken group.
Education
International Internship Program
Heineken created the The International Graduate Programme (IGP). It is a highly competitive programme and is designed to develop highly qualified and motivated individuals so that they could fulfil a Senior Manager role within the Heineken organisation. The program is created to introduce these individuals to all operations within the Heineken company during a period of 18 months, divided in three 6-month periods. During each period the participants get assignments in a different country and within a specific function.
Grants And Scholarships
Heineken offers and supports numerous scholarships. A few examples are: In 2011 Heineken launched a scholarship program based from its Suriname branch, the Surinaamse Brouwerij N.V., to support their community there. In 2000 the “CBC Spouses Heineken USA Performing Arts Scholarship” was established. It is a highly competitive scholarship developed in honour of the late performing artist Curtis Mayfield. Financial assistance scholarships are awarded each year to talented students pursuing a career in performing arts.
Cooperation with Universities
Heineken launched the online Global Commerce University. The Online University allows administrators to define a development plan for employees, including eLearning, masterclasses, events and so on. Employees can reserve places at events and work alongside eLearning and other modules on the site. The system then tracks their progress and compares it with their development plan.

Further Information
‘Respect for People, the Environment and the Society in which we live and work’ is one of the Core Values of the Heineken company. Working towards better environmental and social stewardship is something the business has been doing from its outset. Heineken’s “Brewing a Better Future”, is a long-term initiative started in 2010 to create sustainable values for the company, society and the whole planet. It forms the basis for the sustainability policy within the company’s global strategy. It focusses on four main areas: (1) protecting water resources, (2) reducing CO2 emissions, (3) sourcing sustainably and (4) advocating responsible consumption. These areas are then also influenced by Heinekens values and behaviours: “living their values, leading by example, and working together to make a difference.”
