Adele

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on the 5th May 1988 in Tottenham, North London. She is a British singer-songwriter. Adele graduated from the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. In 2007 she received the Brit Awards ‘Critics Choice Award’ and won the BBC Sound of 2008. In 2008 she went on to release her debut album ‘19’ which garnered commercial and critical success. At the 51st Grammy Awards, Adele received the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She went on to release her second album in early 2011, which led to her winning a record-equalling six Grammy Awards. The album sold 30 million copies worldwide. In 2013 she received an Academy Award as well as a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for her single ‘Skyfall’ written for the James Bond film.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy[edit]

In 2009, she performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in order to raise money for the Save the Music Foundation charity.

Humanitarian Causes[edit]

In July and November 2008, Adele performed at the ‘Keep a Child Alive’ Black Ball in London and New York. In 2011 Adele performed at the 2009 Musicares Charity concert in Los Angeles. She has also donated autographed items in order to support Musicares which is a charity that supports musicians in need. When on tour, Adele insists that all backstage visitors donate a minimum charitable contribution of $20 for the UK charity Sands. Sands is an organisation dedicated to supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby. She was able to raise more than $13,000 for the charity from her UK and European legs of her tour.
