Tommy Broughan was born in August 1947 and has been a member of the Dali Eireann since 1992. He is the Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin Bay North constituency.
Political Career[edit]
Tommy Broughan was a longtime activist in Dublin North East Labour Party, and served as Constituency Secretary and Treasurer from the mid-1980s. He stood for the Labour Party for the first time in the 1989 General Election and at the subsequent local elections in June 1991 was elected for the Coolock Artane Ward. In that election and the later local elections for the Donaghmede Ward in 1999, and was elected as one of two successful Labour candidates. For eight years from 1992, he led the Labour Party on Dublin City Council and also led the first Rainbow Civic Alliance for six years (1992 to 1998). Tommy Broughan also chaired the main Dublin City Council Committee (General Purposes) throughout this period. In addition to his work as a member of the Dali Eireann Tommy Broughan was also the founding Secretary of Community Enterprise Donaghmede Artane (CEDA) and founding Chairperson of Bonnybrook Enterprise Action Group (BEAG) and Coolock Development Council.
