On 14th of August 2016, at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin, a flag hoisting ceremony was held in celebration of the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan. The event was attended by many Pakistani citizens and their families who reside in Berlin and its surrounding areas.
The Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is celebrated every year on 14th August. It is one of six public holidays currently observed in Pakistan. Independence Day commemorates the formation of Pakistan as an independent country after the end of British rule in 1947. During the celebration people sing national songs and Pakistani people dress in the colours of the national flag. Every diplomatic mission of Pakistan abroad officially celebrates Independence Day with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag of Pakistan.
H. E. Amb. Jauhar Saleem hoisted the Pakistan flag while the audience sang the national anthem. The ceremony started with a citation from the Holy Quran and was followed with messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan which were read out to the audience. Before commencing his speech, the Ambassador of Pakistan, H.E. Jauhar Saleem, invited the audience to observe a moment of silence for the martyrs of the recent terrorist attacks in Quetta.
In his speech, the Ambassador recalled the independence movement of Pakistan and the sacrifices rendered for this cause. He highlighted the importance of independence for the nation and drew a parallel to the current struggle of the people of Kashmir for freedom from the occupying Indian forces.
The Independence Day cake cutting ceremony was led by the Ambassador and accompanied by national songs presented by Pakistani student Ali Nawaz to the delight of the audience. At the end the guests and community members were served sumptuous Pakistani cuisine.
The Independence Day of Pakistan plays an essential role in the culture and national development of Pakistan. Today, after 70 years as independent country, Pakistan has achieved very good diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany in addition to considerable achievements in the field of science, engineering and technology.
