Galtung, Johan (October 24, 1930 - )
Norwegian sociologist and mathematician, and founder of the discipline of peace and conflict studies. Galtung is most famous for developing the Center-Periphery model and the theory about the coexistence of both republic and empire within the United States political structure. Moreover, he developed the distinction between negative and positive peace and the concept of structural violence.
