Critical Race Theory (CRT)
Developed in the late 70s/early 80s, the Critical Race Theory is the critical analysis of race and racism from a legal point of view. It argues that racism is ingrained into American society and that liberalism and meritocracy, often used to disclaim racism, are still a problem as they are used as a vehicle for self-interest, power and privilege of the white sector of society. CRT doubts the constitutional and legal system’s capacity for change and agrees with critical theorists and feminists that the law is not equal but is instead part of the ongoing problem with racism in society.
