In 1990, he founded the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, a lobbying NGO for NATO membership and served as its President and CEO. He is the founder and spokesman of the Green Party of Bulgaria, and joined the parliament as deputy.  From 1996 to 1999, he served as Vice-Chairman of the Atlantic Treaty Association in Paris.
