Dragan Domazet was born in Nis, Serbia on July 5, 1947. Domazet is a professor, rector and the founder of the Belgrade Metropolitan University. He was one of the experts who helped to prepare the new Serbian education strategy (in 2011 till 2012) and coordinated the team of experts who developed the strategic segment on higher education. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Scientific Council of UNESCO. His current research interests are in the area of adaptive and personalized e-learning.
Biography
From 1971 to 1981, he was Teaching Assistant for the faculty of Mechanical Engineering in the University of Niš, Yugoslavia. In 1981 he was Assistant Professor for six years for the faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Niš, Yugoslavia. Afterwards, Domazet was an associate Professor in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering within the same university until 1991. From 1991 to 1994 he was Professor of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In 1994 became Senior Research Fellow at the Gintic Institute of Manufacturing Technology, Singapore (Manufacturing Information Technology Division, Product Development and Data Management Group). In 2001, he was Minister for Science, Technology and Development, the Government of Serbia, Republic of Serbia. Following this, he was Professor of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Niš, Serbia. In 2005, Domazet has been Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology in Belgrade, Serbia. During this professional career, Dragan Domazet has received many awards from the University of Niš: in 1970, the Student Research Award; in 1971, the University Award for the best graduate in Engineering; in 1982, the Faculty Award from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; in 1986, the University Award; In 1989, the Fulbright Award; and in 1989, he received a research grant for a one year post-Doctorate research position in the USA at the University of Illionois at Urbana-Champaign. Education
Dragan Domazet studied his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from 1966 to 1971 in the University of Nis, Yugoslavia (5 years undergraduate program - Dipl. Ing. Diploma). In 1976 he graduated with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with the University of Niš in Yugoslavia (M.Sc. dissertation: “Static and dynamic analysis of mechanical press frames of C-type”). From 1976 until 1981, he got his PhD on Mechanical Engineering within the same University (PhD dissertation: “Analysis and optimization of hydraulic press frames”). Following this, he took PhD courses in AI, concurrent engineering, and worked in a research project on new knowledge processing technologies with the implementation in CAPP (Computer Aided Process Planning) and concurrent product and manufacturing process design. In 1990 he started his post-doctoral research as a Fullbright Fellow on AI and knowledge processing technologies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Urbana, Illinois, U.S.A.
