Ranko Vilovic was born March 29, 1957, in Zagreb. He is a Croatian lawyer and diplomat.

Biography

Vilovic was a member of the City Council of the City of Zagreb from 1980 until 1985. From 1985 until 1990, Ranko Vilovic was a Consultant in the Consular Affairs and the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Croatian Parliament. He then became Head of the Department of Consular Affairs for two years in 1990 until 1992. He began his diplomatic career in 1992 as a Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Bern. In 1993, he became Consul, Head of the Consulate of the Republic of Croatia in Zurich until 1995. As of 1995, for three years, he was the Head of the Department of Peace and Security at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zagreb. Between 1998 and 2002, Vilovic became Minister-Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations, the OSCE and several other international organizations in Vienna. He was also Head of the Department of Northern and Western Europe in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zagreb from 2002 until 2004. From 2004 to 2008, he was Head of the Directorate for UN issues, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zagreb, and from 2009 until 2013, he was the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations in New York City.

Education

Ranko Vilovic, received his Bachelor Degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of Zagreb, in Croatia. He also took courses in International Law at the Academy of International Law in The Hague, the Netherlands. He then continued his postgraduate studies in International Law and International Relations at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, Croatia.
