Mario Michele Giarrusso

Mario Michele Giarrusso (born in Catania on February 25th 1965) is an Italian politician and lawyer. He is a member of the Movimento Cinque Stelle political party.

Political Career

Mario Michele Giarrusso has been an anti-mafia activist since he was in high school. He was among the founders of "Movimento per la Democrazia - La Rete" at the end of the 80s. He was one of the founders of the Antonino Caponnetto Foundation, which is aimed at fighting mafia. Since 2005 he has been involved in political activities concerning waste management in Sicily, dealing with the legal aspects around Sicily's incinerators. He was appointed as Senator for the first time in 2013. As a Senator, he is also a member of the Committee on the Elections and Immunity of Parliamentarians, Secretary of the 2nd Permanent Commission on Justice, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Prosecution Procedures and a member of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Mafia and Other Criominal Associations.

Education

He holds a degree in Law from University of Catania.
