Alev Korun (Grünen) Member of the Austrian National Council

Alev Korun is a Turkish-Austrian politician. Korun is the first Turkish congresswoman in the Austrian Parliament (Greens).

Political career

From 2001 until 2005 she was District Councillor of the Green party in Vienna. Korun was from 2001 until 2005 Regional Executive of the Green party in Vienna and spokesperson of the ViennaGreen Party. In November 2005 she became a representative in the Vienna City Council. She is Integration and Human Rights Expert of the Green party. In 2008 Korun was elected member of the Austrian National Council.

Notable work

Korun worked for antiracism and integration organisations in Tirol and Vienna. She worked in a consultancy agency for immigrants where she both legal and social guidance provided. From 1998 until 1999 Korun was a NGO-representative in the Integration Council of the Austrian Ministry of Home Affairs. In 1998 she founded the European Netwerk against Racism.

Education

Alev Korun attended High School in Turkey and studied afterwards at the Business Academy of the Austrian St.-George College in Istanbul. Furthermore she studied Political Science and Gender Studies at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna.
