Brenda Dean was born on the 29th April 1943 in Salford, Greater Manchester. She is a British politician who is a member of the Labour Party.

Political Career

Brenda Dean was created a Life Peer in October 1993, in which she was given the title Baroness Dean of Thornton-Le-Fylde of Eccles in the County of Greater Manchester. She went on to become a Privy Councillor in 1998. Dean started her Career, working for the Trade Union Movement. During her time working for the trade unions, she was elected to the role of General Secretary Society of Graphical and Allied Trades.

Notable Work

Aside from her role as a Life Peer, Baroness Dean has served on the University Council for The University of Nottingham since 2012. Brenda was a member of the National Committee of Inquiry into the future of Higher Education known as the Dearing Committee. She has served as a Council Member of City University, London, the Open University and the London School of Economics. She is also vice president of the War Widows Association and President of Abbeyfield Society Charity. Dean is also a Trustee of the Thomson Foundation and of University College Hospital Cancer Charity.
