Lord Cotter

Brian Joseph Michael Cotter, Baron Cotter (born 24 August 1936) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He was Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Weston-super-Mare from 1997 to 2005.

Political Career

Lord Cotter joined the House of Lords on the 30th May 2006. Prior to this he was an MP for Weston Super Mare from 1997 to 2005. Throughout his time as an MP he served as Small Business Spokesman for the Liberal Democrats. He is a member of a number of committees in the House of Lords including EU Sub Committee B - Internal Market, Infrastructure and Employment 2013-, EU Sub-Committee G - Social Policies and Consumer Protection 2008-12, Audit Committee (L) 2006-10.

Education

Lord Cotter was educated at Saint Benedict's School, Ealing, and Downside School in Somerset. On leaving school he entered the British Army, serving two years National Service, spending time stationed in Germany. He entered business after the Army, after studying Business Studies at a polytechnic in London, eventually running his own small manufacturing company, Plasticable Ltd in Alton, which is now run as a co-operative.
