The United Nations Environment Program was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Nairobi. It coordinates the UN’s environmental initiatives and aims to assist developing countries with implementing effective and sustainable environmental policies. UNEP covers a wide range of issues including renewable energy solutions, air pollution, clean water, the atmosphere, management of ecosystems, environmental governance and green economies. It also educates policy- makers and the public on environmental issues and promotes attitudes and values which are conducive to environmental sustainability.
