Meryame Kitir, born on April 20, 1980 in Maasmechelen, is a Belgian politician for sp.a (Socialist Party). In addition, she works since 1999 as a laborer at Ford Genk, where she is active as a union representative for the socialist trade union ABVV.

Political Career

In 2006, the political party sp.a noticed her social commitment and asked her to take the step to politics. That same year Meryame Kitir was elected as councilor in Maasmechelen. A year later, she became a federal Member of Parliament in the Chamber, where she was a member of the Social Affairs Committee. In the elections of 2010, Kitir was successor for the Socialist Party in the constituency of Limburg. She took her oath in the Chamber on July 6, 2010.

Education

She attended the St. Barbara Institute in Maasmechelen.
