Maria de Belém Roseira Martins Coelho Henriques de Pina was born on July 28th, 1949. She is a Judge that currently practices Deputy at the Portuguese National Parliament.

Political Career

Member of the Socialist Party, she is one of the oldest deputys serving at the Portuguese Parliament. Always elected since the VIII Legislature (1999), she held positions such as Health Minister from 1995 to 1999,the first António Guterres Government and Minister for Equality in 1999 and 2000, in his second one. She was also Vice-President of the World Health Organization General Assembly in 1997 and President in 1999. She was member of the Parliamentarian Group for Friendship between Portugal-Poland, Portugal-Italy, Portugal-United Kingdom, Portugal-Cape Green, Portugal-China and Portugal-Mozambique. Presently, she takes part of the International Affairs and Portuguese Communities Parliamentary Committee and of the Task Force Group Jury of the 2014 Human Rights Prize.

Education

Maria de Belém Roseira is a law graduate by the Faculty of Law, University of Coimbra.
