Education
Chris Said was born in Nadur, Gozo in 1970. He graduated from the University of Malta as Notary Public and later, as Lawyer, and he practised law until he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in 2008.
History
Earlier on he was elected as President for the Students' Council at Sixth Form, President of the MŻPN (Moviment Żgħażagħ Partit Nazzjonalista) in Gozo for almost ten years, and he was involved in several other organisations including the Gozo Football Association which he presided for ten years. Chris Said was first elected in the Nadur Local Council in 1993. Six years later he was elected mayor, a role he served with dedication until he was elected Member of Parliament in 2008. During this time, Nadur was the first locality in Malta to be awarded the European Destination of Excellence Award (EDEN). Upon his election in Parliament, Chris Said was chosen by the Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi as Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Public Consultation and Information within the Office of the Prime Minister. In this role he steered the overhaul of Local Administration in Malta, he set up once again the information-provider MEUSAC (Malta-EU Steering Action Committee), and placed consultation and dialogue at the heart of Government-initiatives. Just two years into the legislature, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi gave him more responsibilities, including Consumer and Competition Affairs as well as Industrial Relations. In this capacity, Chris Said managed to lower medicine prices and piloted the new legislation that allowed for the setting up of the new Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA). On the 6th January 2012, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi appointed Chris Said as Minister of Justice, Dialogue and the Family.
