Eva Glawischnig-Piesczek, born on February 28, 1969 in Villach, is an Austrian politician and a Member of Parliament for the Greens (Die Grünen) since 1999. She is the federal spokeswoman of the Austrian Green Party.

Political career

Glawischnig-Piesczek worked as a legal adviser for Global 2000 from 1992 until 1996. That same year she embarked on a career in regional politics for the Green Party of Vienna, later moving on to the federal level. She has been a member of the National Council of Austria (Nationalrat) since 1999 and became Vice-Chair of the Austrian Green Party in 2002. On October 30, 2006, she became the Third Speaker of the Austrian Parliament, as the first representative of the Greens in this office. On October 3, 2008, Glawischnig-Piesczek became the Greens' federal spokeswoman after Alexander Van der Bellen's resignation.

Education

Born in Villach, Kärnten, Eva Glawischnig-Piesczek attended high school in Spittal an der Drau and took her Matura exams there. She then studied Law at the University of Graz, Steiermark, graduating respectively in 1993 (Master) and in 1999 (Doctorate).
