Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart (born November 28, 1962) is an American comedian, political satirist, actor, writer, director and producer from New York, New York. Stewart started as a stand-up comedian, but branched into television for Comedy Central. He went on to host his own show on MTV called The Jon Stewart Show. He has also had several film roles as an actor, but has done few cinematic projects since becoming the host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central in early 1999. The Daily Show, although being hugely popular, has attracted a large amount of criticism over Stewart’s political positions, mainly from the American political right wing.

Humanitarian Causes
Stewart is an active proponent of the American political left and promoting democracy in schools. He is also an avid supporter of Comic Relief, a widespread telethon charity organization, which began as a reaction to the Famine in Ethiopia.

Stewart supports a number of social movements and charities including: The American Foundation for AIDS Research, Amnesty International, the National Parkinson Foundation, Stand Up to Cancer, The Make-a-Wish Foundation, Comic Relief, MusiCares, Autism Speaks, and others.
Notable Actions
In 2001, Stewart attended the Annual Concert for the Parkinson Foundation in support of one of his favourite childhood teachers, who was struck by the disease.
