Aikaterini Igglezi
Aikaterini Igglezi was born in Chalkidiki in 1967. She is a Greek politician and forester. She was elected as Member of Parliament, with SYRIZA-EKM in Halkidiki, at the 6th of May and 17th of June 2012 elections. She is member of the parliamentary “Standing Committee on Finance and Economic AFFAIRS” and “Special Standing Committee for Environmental Issues and Protection”.
Political Career
She is a member of Synaspismos since its establishment. She has been active in social and environmental movements since her teenage years. She is vice president of the association “Friends of the Environment, Ierissos” and secretary of the “Association of Parents and Guardians” of the Ierissos’ High School. She has been elected, since 2003, as a member of the Thessaloniki’s committee of the “Panhellenic Movement of Foresters”. Lately, she participates in movements of the Local Authorities in Halkidiki. In the recent years, she has become involved in the fight against the expansion of mining activities in Halkidiki (gold mining and metallurgy) in order to prevent the environmental and economic disaster of Halkidiki, as a member of the “Coordinating Committee of Associations of Stagira-Akanthos against gold mining in N.E. Halkidiki”.
Education Career
She is a graduate of the Faculty of Forestry and Natural Environment at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She worked for 18 years, on temporary contracts, as a forester of Forest Service of Arnea, Halkidiki. She speaks English.
