Karin Jiroflée, born in Leuven on May 19, 1962, is a Belgian politician for sp.a. She grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Kessel-Lo.

Political Career

Even though education was her passion, she became politically active after working in the cabinet of former Minister Louis Tobback. In 1994, Jiroflée was elected for sp.a in Leuven as councilor. In 2003 she was elected as a Member of the Chamber of Representatives. She remained there until 2007. After the federal elections in 2014, she was elected again as a Congresswoman. Since 2006, Jiroflée is also deputy for the province of Flemish Brabant. She stopped being a local councilor and retired form the Leuven political scene, after she moved to Haacht in 2009. Since 2013, she is councilor in Haacht and is also the President of the City Council.

Education

After following secondary education at the Royal Atheneum of Leuven, Jiroflée studied Pedagogy at the VUB (Free University of Brussels).
