Barbara Pollastrini
Biography
Barbara Pollastrini was born on September 30th 1947 in Darfo Boario Terme, Province of Brescia, Lombardia. She is a university professor and a Italian politician and activist. During the Protests of 1968, she joined the Maoist organization Servire il Popolo, and also become the director of the Milan office.
Education
She obtained a degree at the Bocconi University in Milan and she spent a period at École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris, France.
Political career
She joined the Italian Communist Party and become the leader of the Milan office, after a period as city councillor. In 1992, she retired from politics when she was incriminated for political corruption during the inquiry called Mani pulite (or Tangentopoli), until her acquittal in 1996. She joined the Partito Democratico della Sinistra and in 1999 she become head of the women group of the Democrats of the Left. During the general election in 2001 she was electedt as the Chamber of Deputies. On 17 May 2006, she was nominated Minister for Equal Opportunity untill May 8th 2008. Since 23 May 2007, she has been a member of the National Committee for the Partito Democratico. At the elections of February 24th and 25th 2013, she was elected at the Chamber of Deputies for the Partito Democratico. She is also Secretary of the Democratic Party at the Chamber of Deputies.
Since March 2014 she has been vice president of the Costitutional Commission.
