John Jacob Astor, 3rd Baron Astor of Hever, Deputy Lieutenant (born 16th June 1946) is an English businessman and politician. He is an elected hereditary peer in the House of Lords with the Conservative Party. He is also a member of the Astor family. Astor is a Deputy Lieutenant of Kent. He is also president of the Durand Group (WWI Research) and the Westerham Branch of the Royal British Legion and trustee of the "Astor of Hever Trust".

Political Career

During the South African General Election of 1994, Lord Astor went to Johannesburg as British Parliamentary Observer. From 1996 to 1998, he was a member of the Executive, Association of Conservative Peers. Then he was elected to continue as a member of the House of Lords. From 1998 to 2001, he was appointed Opposition Spokesman on Social Security, and member of the Finance and Staff Subcommittee. From 2001, he was Opposition Spokesman for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and International Development. From 2003 to 2010, he worked as Opposition Spokesman for Defense. Since 2010 he is Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence. He is Former Hon Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Middle East Council.
