Brunner, Christiane

Christiane Brunner, born on September 23rd, 1976 in Güssing (Burgenland), is an Austrian politician and Member of Parliament for the Greens (Die Grünen). In addition, Brunner has been working as a project coordinator in the field of renewable energy in Güssing since 2003.



Political Career

Between 2002 and 2005, Brunner was a municipal councillor in Mogersdorf, where she was elected as an independent member on the list of the ÖVP. She moved to the Greens in 2008 and represents them in the council. In addition, Brunner has been the District Party spokesperson of the Greens in the district of Jenner since 2005. She is also a national convention delegate for Burgenland and ran in third position on the list during the regional elections in Burgenland.

After the parliamentary elections in 2008, Brunner was sworn in for the Greens on October 28th, 2008 as a deputy in the National Assembly and simultaneously became the Green parliamentary group’s spokesperson concerning the agendas of environmental, anti-nuclear and energy policy, as well as animal welfare. Until 2013, she was a member of the following committees: Permanent Subcommittee on matters concerning the European Union, Subcommittee of the Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, Sub-Committee of the Constitutional Committee, Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, Committee on Petitions and Citizens' Initiatives, Committee on Economic and industry, Environment Committee and Transport Committee.

Education

Brunner attended the elementary school in Mogersdorf from 1983 to 1987 and subsequently went to high school in the village of Jenner until 1991. In 1991, she moved to the grammar school in Jenner, where she graduated in 1995. She then studied Law at the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz but changed courses in 1996 to study Environmental System Sciences. In 2002, she graduated with an MA degree. Since 2007 Brunner has again been studying law, this time at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz.

Notable Work

Since 2003, Brunner has been involved in the citizens’ initiative against the S7.
