Singapore International Photography Festival (2008)
Fostering Photography As a Tool of Cultural Exchange[edit]
The Singapore International Photography Festival is a biennial festival, which aims to promote appreciation for photography amongst the wider community. It gathers people from around the world with a common goal: to advance art and photography. It aims to be an international arena for critical thought and academic discourse on photography in Southeast Asia. SIPF functions also as a platform to discover and encourage Southeast Asian photographers onto the international stage. At the core of SIPF is a firm belief that everyone can enjoy photography. In addition there is a special collaboration with Singapore Art Museum, to showcase the contemporary photography practice in Southeast Asia, as well as with Noorderlicht International Photofestival in Groningen, the Netherlands, for a themed open call “An Ocean of Possibilities”. This partnership, which explores the search for the path less travelled, translates to an opportunity for double exposure as selected artists exhibit their works at both festivals simultaneously.
