Kai Gehring, born 26th December 1977 in Mülheim van der Ruhr, is a German politician. He joined the liberal party Alliance '90/The Greens in 1998. In 2005 Gehring was elected to the Bundestag and has been a member since then.

Political Career

Gehring was 1998 Member of Alliance 90 / The Greens and was one of the founders of the National Association of Young Greens (GJ) in North Rhine - Westphalia. From 2002 to 2006, he also belonged to the State Executive Committee of the National Association green North Rhine-Westphalia.

Since 2005, has been a member of the German Bundestag. From 2005 to 2011 he was the spokesperson for youth and high school politics of the parliamentary party Alliance '90 / The Green. From June 2011 to September 2013 he was the spokesperson on Education and Higher Education Policy. Since October 2013, Gehring is the spokesman for University, Science and Research. He is chairman of his function - the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment and substitute member of the Committee on Budgets. He is also deputy chairman of the German-Greek Parliamentarians.

Education

After graduation in 1997 at the sibling - Scholl -Gymnasium in Velbert, Gehring did his community service at the Evangelical - Student Community (ESG) in Essen and graduated in 1998 in Social Sciences from the Ruhr - University Bochum.
