José Montilla Aguilera
José Montilla Aguilera, born 15 January 1955, in Iznájas, Córdoba, is a Spanish senator elected by the Catalunyan Parliament in the 10th Congress of Deputies. Montilla Aguilera is a member of the Catalunyan wing of the Spanish Socialist Worker’s Party, Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE). In the Spanish Senate, this political party, Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC-PSOE), are within the Parliamentary Group Entesa Pel Progrès Catalan (GPEPC).
Political Career[edit]
Montilla Aguilera started his political career as mayor of Cornellà, Barcelona in 1985, a position he held until 2004. From 2004 to 2006, he was appointed by José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero as minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism. In 2006 he was elected president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, a position he occupied for four years, until 2010. Furthermore, José Montilla Aguilera was the first Secretary of the PSC and he held the position from 2000 and 2011. He was also the Secretary of Organization from 1994 to 2000. Finally, it is important to highlight he was a member of the Federal Executive Committe of the PSOE between 2000 and 2008.
In the Spanish Senate, he is the spokesman of the Parliamentary Group Entesa Pel Progrès Catalan. Montilla is also a holder member of the Senate Permanent Delegation and the spokesman of the Commission of Economics and Competitiveness, of the Committee on Finance and Government, of the Committe on Industry, Energy and Tourism and of the General Committee of the Autonomous Communities. Montilla Aguilera is a member of the Commission of Appointments and the Joint Commission of Committees of Interior, Education and Sport, and Industry, Energy and Toursim.
