José Fernández Blanco Blanco was born in Puebla de Sanabria (Zamora) in 1959. He is currently a member of the Spanish Senate within the socialist party (PSOE).

Political Career[edit]

Blanco has been Secretary General of the PSOE and Deputy of the Province of Zamora in Zamora County Council since 1995. In the Parliamentary elections of 2004 he was elected Senator for Zamora, the only senator who was elected by the minority lists without leading the list. In the Senate of Spain, he held the position of Deputy Speaker of the Socialist Group in the Committee of the Society of Information and Knowledge. In the general elections of November 2011, he returned to be elected Senator for the province of Zamora. Blanco is also a member of the executive committee of the PSOE in Castilla y León, He resigned along with 26 other members of the executive in May 2014.

Education[edit]

He works as a teacher in his hometown, of which he has been Mayor since 1991. Blanco was also the Secretary General of the PSOE and Deputy Provincial de Zamora in Zamora County Council since 1995.
