Leire Iglesias Santiago
Leire Iglesias Santiago, born 26 May 1978, is a member of the Spanish Chamber of Deputies representing the Spanish province of Cáceres. Iglesias Santiago is a member of the Spanish Socialist Worker’s Party, Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) and she is a member of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Grupo Socialista (GS) within the Chamber of Deputies.
Political Career[edit]
Leire Iglesias Santiago has been an MP for the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) from Cáceres, for one term since 2011. Previously, she was a councilman in the city of Cáceres from 1999 to 2001. That year she was appointed youth director general of the Board of Extremedura, a position she held until 2003. Furthermore, she was the Director General of InJuve between 2004 and 2008. Since 2009 Iglesias Santiago has been a deputy secretary general of the Ibero-American Youth Organization and the Secretary of Ideas and Programs within the Provincial Executive Committee of the PSOE in Cácres. Nowadays in the Chamber of Deputies she is an assigned member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Commission of Economy and Competitiveness and the Committee on International Development and Cooperation. Additionally, she is the spokesperson of the Commission of Development and a member of the Joint Commission for the Study of Drug Problem.
