Adrian Bailey was born on the 11th December 1945 in Salisbury. He is a British Labour Member of Parliament for West Bromwich West since his election in 2000. He is also the Chairman of the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee

Political Career[edit]

Adrian Bailey contested numerous seats throughout his lifetime. His first attempt was in 1970 for Worcester. Following this he contested the Nantwich seat in 1974, the Wirral by-election in 1976 and succeeded in getting elected in 2000 to West Bromwich West. In 1982 Bailey moved to the West Midlands to become a full-time political organiser for the Co-operative Party covering the Midlands and South Yorkshire region. He held this post until his election to Parliament in June 2000. Following its establishment in 2002, Adrian Bailey took the position of Secretary of The All Party Parliamentary Group for Steel.

After the 2005 general election, Bailey became a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and has served successive Secretaries of State, David Blunkett and John Hutton. He also served as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to Bob Ainsworth, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence.

Education[edit]

He was educated at Cheltenham Grammar School and graduated with an Honours Degree in Economic History from the University of Exeter in 1967. He trained afterwards at the Loughborough College of Librarianship.
