Guntram Schneider was born on the 2nd of July 1951 in Gütersloh. He has been a member of the German Federal Council for the Social Democratic Party of Germany since 2010. Besides, he is the Minister for Labour, Integration and Social Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Political career[edit]

Before his political career, he worked as a toolmaker. Between 1974 and 1990 he worked for the DGB (Confederation of German Trade Unions) in various different leading positions. From 1990 to 1994 he was the secretary of the Administration Board of IG Metall. Between 1995 and 2006 he was the first secretary of the IG Metall Headquarters in Münster and a member of the Advisory Board of IG Metall. Subsequenty, from 2006 to 2010 he served as the chairman of the DGB in the district of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Education[edit]

Between 1965 and 1968 Schneider trained to become a toolmaker. In 1974 he visited the folk high school.

Notable work[edit]

Member of the Committee on Labour and Social Policy.
