Olivier Destrebecq is a Belgian politician, member of the Walloon MR party (Mouvement Réfor-mateur), she was born in Tournai on the 21st of March 1965.

Political career

Olivier Destrebecq first worked as a teacher and later as a manager. He started his political career in local politics in 1994 as a member of the JRL, a party of which he later became president in 1996. He became a political secretary of the La Louvière PRL section. He was elected local coun-cillor in 2000 and then vice-president of the MR party in La Louviére in 2004. He was first on the list for the 2006 local elections and managed to bring the MR in La Louvière their first majority after being in the opposition for 85 years. MR kept its new majority in La Louvière and in 2012 Olivier was reelected as Municipal Councillor and alderman, charged with economic development, trade and international relations.

On the federal level he became a member of the House of Representatives in March 2008, replacing Olivier Chastel, who became an MP for the constituency of Hainaut and was appointed Secre-tary of State for the preparation of the Belgian Presidency of the European Union in the Leterme Government I. Olivier is a member of the Committee on Infrastructure, the Communications and Public Enterprises, and deputy of the Commission of Economy, Science Policy , Education , Sci-entific and Cultural National Institutions , the Middle Classes and Agriculture and member of the Committee on Public Health and Environment.

At the end of the political crisis that rocked Belgium in 2010-2011 , Olivier Destrebecq continued his parliamentary mandate as a member of the Economic, Scientific Politics, the Middle Classes and Agriculture Commission, but also as a member of the Committee of Finance and Budgeting. Olivier Destrebecq has made efforts through his mandate to restore the public finances , while en-suring the protection of purchasing power and the competitiveness of enterprises. He also argues for a reform of the trade unionism in Belgium.
