Paul Butler
Paul Roger Butler (born September 18th 1955) is the current Bishop of Durham in the Diocese of Durham. His election was confirmed on January 20th 2014.
Political Career
Due to his status as Bishop of Durham, Paul Butler sits as a peer in the House of Lords.
Education
Butler was educated at Kingston Grammar School and received a BA in English and history with honours from Nottingham University in 1977.
Notable Work
He was a trustee of the Church Mission Society from 2000 to 2010 and its chairman from 2008 to 2010. He regularly visits Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda, and visited Natal, South Africa in January 2011 as part of a diocesan visit. In 2012 he was appointed President of Scripture Union, the charity he had worked for from 1987 to 1994. He is a patron of the Scargill Movement (which operates Scargill House) as well as the Nottingham-based charity the Ear Foundation.
