He is a member of the Conservative party.

He was educated at Winchester College and Magdalen College, Oxford, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, politics and economics in 1954.

Notable Work[edit]

He was a member of the Commonwealth Development Corporation between 1982 and 1985, and went on to be general manager and chief executive from 1985 to 1994.
