Markus Söder
Markus Söder was born on the 5th of January 1967 in Nürnberg. He has been a member for the German Federal Council for the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU) since 2008. He is the Bavarian State Minister of Finance, for land development and home affairs.
Political career
Between 1992 and 1993 he was a trainee at the Bayerischer Rundfunk and subsequently an editor of the Bayerischer Rundfunk. Since 1983 he has been a member of the CSU and the Young Union. Since 1994 he has been a member of the Bavarian State Parliament and between 1995 and 2003 he served as a Regional Chairman of the Young Union Bavaria whilst serving as a member of the CSU Board. From 1997 to 2008 he was the county chairman of the CSU in Nurnberg-West. In 2000 he became the Chairman of the CSU Media Commission. Moreover, between 2003 and 2007 he was the CSU General Secretary and between 2007 and 2008 he served as the Bavarian Minister for Federal and European Affairs in the Bavarian State Chancellery. Between 2008 and 2011 he was the Bavarian State Minister for Environment and Health and between 2011 and 2013 the Bavarian State Minister of Finance.
Education
Between 1987 and 1991 Söder studied law in Erlangen. In 1998 he received his doctorate.
