Rainer Robra
Rainer Robra, born 15 October 1951 in Nienhof, Landkreis Celle, is a qualified lawyer and German politician (CDU). He is the current Head of State and Minister for European and Media Affairs of Saxony-Anhalt.
Political Career[edit]
Rainer Robra is a member of the CDU. From 1990 to 1994 he was justice minister in the CDU / FDP government of Saxony-Anhalt, and briefly in the Cabinet Hoeppner. In this role, he was instrumental in the rebuilding of the judicial system in Saxony-Anhalt. Since the change of government in 2002 by an SPD minority government to a CDU / FDP coalition in Saxony-Anhalt, Robra has held the position of Minister of State and Head of the State. He is thus responsible for the coordination within the state government. He also is responsible for Federal and European Affairs and the media policy of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. Robra is a member of the Federal Council for the State of Saxony-Anhalt and a member of the Committee on questions of the European Union since May. As Federal Council member, he is a member of the Political Committee and the Subcommittee on NATO Partnerships of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Conference of European Affairs Committees COSAC. Since 21 June 2002, the Robra has worked for the ZDF Television Council. In addition, he was appointed by ZDF in the 18-member Policy Board of the Arte Germany TV GmbH. Robra is a member of the Board of Investment Bank of Saxony-Anhalt, the Supervisory Board of Investment and Marketing Corporation Saxony-Anhalt as well as Chairman of the Board in the Province Winery Monastery Pforta GmbH.
Education[edit]
Rainer Robra studied Law in Göttingen and Hamburg. After the Second State Examination in 1979, he served as a judge in Hanover, then as a prosecutor in Celle. In 1986 he moved to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice, where he most recently served as Deputy Director Head of the Criminal Division. From November 1990 to October 1994 he was justice minister in Saxony-Anhalt. From 1994 to 2002 he worked as a lawyer and founding member of the firm Remmers Robra-Meyer.
