Dr. André Hahn is a member of The Left Party and was born on April 20, 1963 in Berlin, Germany. He is a teacher by profession.

Political Career

Hahn was a member of the SED from 1985 to 1989 and subsequently, of the PDS (now The Left Party). From 1989 to 1990, he was a member of the Central Round Table of the German Democratic Republic. From 1991 to 1995, Hahn was a member of the Executive Committee of the PDS in Saxony. From 1992 to 1999, he was a member of the National Party Council of the PDS, and from 1999 to 2002, of the Heidenau City Council. Since 1994, he has been member of the County Council of Saxon Switzerland - Eastern Ore Mountains, including serving fourteen years as the chairman of the PDS (and The Left Party). From December 1994 to November 2013, Hahn was a member of the Saxon State Parliament and from 1995 to 2007, he was a Parliamentary Secretary of The Left Party parliamentary group. From 2007 to 2012, he was a parliamentary deputy of The Left Party; and since 1996, a member of the Parliamentary Control Commission to Review the Working of the State Office for Protection of the Constitution. Hahn holds membership in several committees of inquiry. Hahn has been a member of the German Bundestag since October 2013. Since January 2014, he has been a Parliamentary Secretary of the Group of the Left.

Education

From 1984 to 1989, Hahn studied German and History at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin to become a teacher. This was followed by a research study of Political Science. In 1994, he obtained the title o Dr.rer.soc. on the topic: "Political Culture in the last year of the GDR - A Study Based on the Round Tables".
